Every summer my colleagues and I in the General Assembly are assigned to interim study committees so that we may delve deeper into issues that Hoosiers have asked us to address. I have been assigned to four study committees including the Council on Evansville State Hospitals, the State Council for Interstate Adult Offender Supervision, the Select Joint Commission on Medicaid Oversight and the Health Finance Commission. The Health Finance Commission’s first meeting will be held on Aug. 23 at 1:00 p.m. at the Statehouse. We have been charged with studying a variety of health issues, many of which have to do with the Affordable Care Act, also referred to as the Federal Healthcare Mandate. At the first meeting we will be discussing three issues including: I am looking forward to delving deeper into these issues and working to find solutions that best fit our community and the majority of Hoosiers. If you’d like to watch this meeting, or other interim study committee meetings online, you may visit www.in.gov/legislative/ and on the left side of the page select ‘Study Committees’, choose the committee you are interested in watching, then on the listed agenda there will be information on how to watch the study committee meeting live online, including which room the meeting is being held in. If you have any suggestions or questions for the Health Finance Commission meeting, please contact me by phone at 317-232-9769 or by email at H78@in.gov. The Select Joint Commission on Medicaid Oversight has scheduled their next meeting for Sept. 18, and I will be sure to report on those discussions at a later date. -30- State Rep.
