[R78] Crouch Capitol Connection: Preparing for the 2012 Legislative Session (12/30/2011)

Friday, December 30, 2011

Start Date: 12/30/2011
End Date: 12/30/2011

I hope that the holiday season finds you and your family happy and healthy.

As we end 2011 and anticipate the New Year, I have been preparing for the upcoming session that starts January 4, 2012.

I have several bills I will be filing this session including a resolution honoring our own Chief Justice Randall Shepard.  The bills that I am authoring deal with a New Markets Job Growth Tax Credit, Nursing Facility Screening and Notification, and the Registration of Music Therapists.

In addition, I am authoring an Electronic Meetings bill which establishes a process that would allow the ability for members of a governing body of any public agency of the state to participate in a meeting of the governing body by electronic communication and to be considered present for establishing a quorum and for roll call votes.  This bill would allow for greater participation in state government from Southwest Indiana.

Recently Gov. Mitch Daniels outlined his legislative priorities for 2012.  The governor said local government reform, a statewide smoking ban, right to work and higher education affordability are among his priorities.

The recent news that the state now has $300 million more in revenues than projected will generate much discussion this session among legislators on whether to spend the money, save it or return it to Hoosier taxpayers.

I appreciate your feedback and the input you have provided me.  I hope that you will continue to do so during the session.  Your support gives me the confidence to tackle these difficult issues and represent Southwest Indiana in the General Assembly.

Finally, I have put together a brief survey that addresses questions we may face in the upcoming session. It has been mailed to households in District 78, and is also available on my website at www.in.gov/H78. Follow the link on the right side of the page that says “Click here to answer my 2012 Legislative Survey”.  If you have a few moments, please fill it out so that I may best represent you at the Statehouse. Your input is important to me and our communities.

As always, I am so grateful for your support. Thank you and a happy, healthy 2012 to you and your family.
