STATEHOUSE –State Representative Wendy McNamara (R-Mount Vernon) congratulated the University of Southern Indiana (USI) Men’s Baseball Team at a welcome home rally on Monday. The team defeated Colorado Mesa University over the weekend to win the NCAA Division II Baseball Championship, their second national title in program history.

“The University of Southern Indiana is such a vibrant and important part of southwestern Indiana, and I am proud to have it in my backyard and represent them at the Statehouse,” said Rep. McNamara. “As a USI alumna, I know the university can open many different doors for students and having a Division II National Championship just makes being a Screaming Eagle all that much sweeter.”

USI's national championship is the third team title for USI Athletics, joining the 2010 USI baseball team and the 1995 USI men's basketball team. In addition, the Eagles have captured seven individual national championships.

“As a proud aunt of a redshirted freshman USI baseball team member, I was able to follow the team very closely this year all the way to the championship game. I am looking forward to future accomplishments and great games in the coming years. I would like to congratulate the players on their championship, and the entire coaching staff, especially Head Coach Tracy Archuleta, for fostering talented and outstanding young men on and off the field,” said Rep. McNamara.
