STATEHOUSE — State Representative Wendy McNamara (R-Mount Vernon) is encouraging students in the Vanderburgh/Posey County area to apply for the Indiana House Page Program. The program gives 13 to 18 year old students the opportunity to visit the Statehouse and watch an entire day of legislative activity.
“This is an exciting opportunity for any and all students interested in seeing the legislative process up close,” said Rep. McNamara. “The Indiana House Page Program gives students the chance to more fully understand how the General Assembly operates by getting to a part of a day of session. I hope to see some students from our area serve as pages this year.”
Pages will enjoy a guided tour of the governor's office, the chambers of the Indiana House and Senate and the Indiana Supreme Court. They will also get to watch floor sessions and committee meetings and help members of our legislative staff.
Students who serve as pages are excused from school for the day. Pages are responsible for their own transportation to and from the Statehouse.
Spots fill up rapidly, so interested students are encouraged to schedule their visit as soon as possible. Students are asked to include two different dates when they can come to the Statehouse between January and April. Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays are the best days to serve because this is when the House is in session. There are no pages on Fridays. To sign up, visit www.in.gov/legislative/house_republicans/off_cms/page or call 1-800-382-9841.
