Warrick and Gibson Counties receive over 1 mil. in grants
STATEHOUSE - Local communities in State Rep. Ron Bacon's (R-Chandler) district have been awarded grants by the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs (OCRA). The Town of Haubstadt will be receiving a $600,000 grant towards revamping its sewer infrastructure, and Warrick County will be receiving a $500,000 grant to fund a new senior center for the county that will be built in Boonville.
These grants are part of the 12th round of Community Focus Fund (CFF) grants announced by Lieutenant Governor Becky Skillman, which are funded by the federal Community Development Block Grant program.
"These grants will be very beneficial for the people in my district and in southwest Indiana," said Rep. Bacon. "I'm happy to see these communities receive some help to improve their local resources in these tough economic times."
The new senior center in Warrick County will be able to support just over 170 seniors and will include an office, kitchen, walking trail, and social hall.
"These grants fund projects which help rural areas build stronger communities," said Lieutenant Governor Becky Skillman. "Adequate infrastructure and community facilities are essential to a community's economic success."
Lt. Governor Skillman hosted an awards ceremony at the Indiana Statehouse on January 26 to honor the grant recipients.
Rep. Bacon attended the awards ceremony on Wednesday afternoon to congratulate the two groups receiving grants from southwest Indiana.
