Certified and locally grown
News in Egypt and the unrest of the Egyptians with their government has spanned headlines this summer. We have seen dictatorships overthrown in other nations over the years – I’ve personally seen it during my tours aboard for the armed forces. While many of us have a list of things we would like to change on the national level, I doubt we would argue against the idea that America is still the greatest country on earth, largely due to our representative democracy. Every day, Americans from all different walks of life work to make this country stronger and better for other people through new and innovative ideas. While other areas of the world are in turmoil, and we all have a role to play in their stability and peace, I count myself blessed to be an American. States also play a significant role in shaping the different cultural backgrounds and influences that make up the national landscape. In Indiana, we have many diverse communities that contribute to the growth of our state, and I love bringing our community’s ideas to the Statehouse as we craft legislation to improve the lives of all Hoosiers. The best pieces of legislation come from individuals who see a problem and have an idea on how to fix it. These ideas come from Hoosiers from all walks of life with different backgrounds and career specialties. They are born from the issues that affect the lives of Hoosiers every day, and they are the start of new legislation that can truly make an impact. This summer provided me with a great opportunity to see so many of you throughout the community, and I appreciate your feedback and ideas on issues we can tackle together this upcoming session. In an effort to get more input from community and create a more active discussion, the House created a “Locally Grown Ideas” initiative. The idea behind it is to create a more accessible way to share ideas that you feel could better our community or our entire state. I want to hear from you and gather your thoughts on how Indiana can better represent and work for you. This is for the whole community, but especially for those who feel out of touch with state government. Everyone has a voice that should be heard at every level of government. Please send me some of your great “locally grown ideas” by email at h74@iga.in.gov or call me at (800) 382-9841. You never know, it might be just the idea we need to fix a major problem or improve a local situation. I am honored to serve as your state representative, and I want to generate as much input as possible on the issues that matter most you and your family. I was born and raised in this community, and I know how many of you have great ideas that can benefit all Hoosiers. Government works best when its citizens are engaged in the legislative process, and I hope to hear from you soon on how we can forge the right path for Indiana. -30-
