Giving thanks and giving back
The spirit of Thanksgiving is here, and there is something about the time around this holiday that makes me hug my family a little tighter. Historically, it is the time of year for reflection, selflessness and helping those in need. Thanksgiving is such a special time to gather with friends and family, enjoy great food and a football game or two.
Looking back at this past year, I am especially thankful for my family. They have been such a great support system for me, and for that, I cannot thank them enough. I want to also thank the brave men and women who serve in the armed forces. Their selfless acts of heroism protect our freedoms and liberties each and every day. I am also eternally grateful for the opportunity entrusted to me by our community to serve as a voice at the Statehouse. It has been an incredible learning experience, and one that I feel humbled to be a part of.
The opportunity I have had while representing our great district has given me such great perspective. I have had the pleasure of meeting many people from all walks of life from all over our great state. Just last week at Organization Day, I met a young man and talented leader who had to undergo ten years of physical therapy just to have the ability to run. He is now a gold medal winner with Special Olympics of Indiana. It is uplifting stories like these that give me extra motivation to overcome obstacles, and I hope you will benefit from hearing his story as well.
While you are gathered around with family and friends this Thanksgiving, please take a moment to reflect on all that has blessed you this past year.
There are countless organizations in and around our district that could always use donations, help and volunteers. The Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives has many ideas for volunteer opportunities, disaster relief and information on nonprofits and faith-based organizations. Feel free to look around on their website at www.in.gov/ofbci/2336.htm or give them a call at 1-317-233-4273.
After the holiday season, the legislative session will be in full swing, and I will be sure to keep you updated on our progress. As always, if you have any issues or concerns you would like to address, please contact my Statehouse office anytime by phone at 317-232-9833 or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org. I hope everyone has a happy holiday season!
