What Issues are Important to You?

As we approach the end of the year and prepare for the 2012 legislative session, I would like to invite you to send me your ideas about legislation addressing the issues most affecting you and your family in District 73. Your ideas and concerns will help me better prepare for the 2012 legislative session that begins in early January.

I have been able to connect with many of you at events around the district this summer and fall. I have enjoyed receiving feedback on the legislation passed this last session. We worked hard during the 2011 session to promote an environment conducive to job creation in Indiana, and I believe that we have seen and will continue to see tremendous job growth in southern Indiana and around the state.

I have also been traveling back to the Statehouse in Indianapolis attending the Health and Finance Commission interim study committee meetings. We have been charged with studying several issues of importance to the taxpayers in Indiana. I will update you on the progress that we make as the committee concludes toward the end of the year.

Legislation we will be dealing with next session stems from the discussions and debates that take place in the interim study committees. A great deal of the legislation will also come directly from the taxpayers who voice their concerns about issues that are pertinent to their area.

In addition, I understand that many of you have concerns about the ever increasing amount of legislation and government control at the state and federal level. At the state level, the Select Committee on Government Reduction has been reviewing the tasks of several hundred boards and commissions that are in place. One piece of legislation that will be under consideration during the 2012 session is to eliminate many of these boards and commissions or to consolidate them. Another aspect of this process is to eliminate obsolete or unnecessary statutes. That is why I am also asking you to voice your opinions on any laws that you believe could be eliminated.

I urge you to contact me and look forward to hearing from you. I will also be holding a joint town hall meeting with Rep. Rhonda Rhodes (R-Corydon) on Thursday, November 3, 2011 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. The meeting will be held at Palmyra Senior Center, 13590 Greene Street (Country Trace Apartments) in Palmyra. If you have any questions you can reach me at: H73@in.gov or 317-232-9509 or 200 W. Washington St. Indianapolis, Indiana 46204.

Sincerely,

Steve Davisson
State Representative
District 73
