House Bill 1265 will establish a commerce corridor along State Road 62 from Interstate Highway 265 to State Road 3. It will also designate the area as an extra heavy-duty highway between the areas of the East End Ohio River Bridge linking Charlestown, Indiana to the eastern suburbs of Louisville, Kentucky. "Designating the River Ridge Commerce Corridor area as an extra heavy-duty highway will increase economic growth in Southern Indiana, and it's an important tie-in to the Ohio River Bridge Project," said Rep. Clere. The corridor is meant to enhance economic growth in an area that is expected to experience significant growth in the future. Necessary traffic signs to designate this area will be left to the discretion of the Indiana Department of Transportation. "In a time when economic development is vital, we can now assure the area now named the River Ridge Commerce Corridor will have the opportunity to expand economically as well as within the community it supports," Rep. Rhoads commented. The bill that has been signed by Gov. Daniels will go into effect starting July 1, 2011. |
