STATEHOUSE-State Rep. Rhonda Rhoads (R-Corydon) was assigned today to two interim study committees addressing issues concerning public education in Indiana. Those committees include the ISTEP Program Citizens' Review Committee and the Interim Study Committee on Educational Issues.
"Education issues were by far the center of attention this past legislative session, and rightly so," said Rep. Rhoads. "I look forward to continuing our efforts throughout the next few months to address some concerns and better understand ways to improve the public education system."
The following information includes a brief description of each interim study committee Rep. Rhoads has been assigned.
ISTEP Program Citizens' Review Committee
. Determine whether an essay question or a scoring rubric complies with specific statutory requirements
Interim Study Committee on Education Issues
. Study the causes of low graduation rates in Indiana high schools
. Identify the best practices that increase graduation rates in high schools in Indiana and other states
. Highlight training and technical assistance opportunities for high schools to effectively address low graduation rates
. Study the impact school counselors, teachers, school administrators and parents have on graduation rates
