STATEHOUSE — State Representative Jim Lucas (R-Seymour) encourages local students to apply for the Indiana House Page Program. The program offers students ages 13 to 18 the chance to visit the Statehouse and see a full day of legislative activity.
“Any student that is interested in learning about the legislative process and being a part of a day of session with the House of Representatives should apply for the Indiana House Page Program,” said Rep. Lucas. “It is prestigious to be a page for the day and help legislators on the House floor. I encourage students to apply for this great opportunity that is both educational and fun to learn more about the General Assembly.”
Pages will get the chance to tour the governor's office, the chambers of the Indiana House and Senate and the Indiana Supreme Court. They will be able to watch floor sessions and committee meetings as well as get the opportunity to personally help staff members.
Students who serve as pages are excused from school for the day. Pages are responsible for their own transportation to and from the Statehouse.
Spots fill up quickly, so interested students are encouraged to schedule their visit as soon as possible. Students are asked to include two different dates when they can come to the Statehouse between January and April. Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays are the best days to serve because that is when the House is in session. There are no pages on Fridays. To sign up, visit www.in.gov/legislative/house_republicans/off_cms/page or call 1-800-382-9841.
Rep. Lucas (R-Seymour) represents portions of Bartholomew, Jackson, Jennings and Jefferson counties.
