Frye Fire Chiefs Award
Start Date: 8/26/2013 Start Time: 12:00 AM
End Date: 8/27/2013 End Time: 11:59 PM
STATEHOUSE – Last Friday, State Representative Randy Frye (R-Greensburg) was honored with the 2013 Indiana Fire Chiefs Association (IFCA) Legislator of the Year Award. The organization recognized Rep. Frye’s tireless advocacy for issues related to public safety.

“I retired from the Indianapolis Fire Department after 26 years of service,” said Rep. Frye. “To receive this award from the IFCA is an incredible honor, and I am truly humbled.”

Rep. Frye’s signature public safety legislation this year was House Enrolled Act (HEA) 1325. HEA 1325 allows the State Disaster Relief Fund to be used to pay first responders. The new law also provides funds for local fire departments to bring in backup firefighters to replace those who responded to a disaster.

“After the tragedy in Henryville, local departments had to cover the cost of paying overtime wages to first responders, as well as the cost of backup firefighters to serve their own municipality,” said Rep. Frye. “It was crucial for the state to step in and alleviate those burdensome costs in the future.”
