Rep. Frye and Rep. McMillin inform constituents of low-cost Internet option
STATEHOUSE — State Rep. Jud McMillin (R-Brookville) and State Rep. Randy Frye (R- Greensburg) want to make constituents aware of a new program that provides affordable, home Internet service. For those that qualify, low-cost Internet can now be attained through Comcast’s Internet Essentials Home Program. “The Internet has become a key part of learning, and many students now need internet access to complete their homework and other school projects,” said Rep. McMillin. “I am pleased that this type of program is now available to help ensure more students have access to educational opportunities.” The Internet Essentials Home program brings the internet to a home for the low-cost of $9.95 a month. To qualify for this low-cost Internet service and a low-cost computer, a household must meet the following criteria: • Be located where Comcast offers Internet service. • Have at least one child receiving free school lunches through the National School Lunch Program. • Have not subscribed to Comcast Internet service within the last 90 days. • Have not had an overdue Comcast bill or unreturned equipment. “Too many rural communities, especially in southeast Indiana, suffer from inconsistent wireless services leading to stifled economic and educational growth,” said Rep. Frye. “I will continue to work with the Indiana Regulatory Commission and service providers to connect Hoosiers with broadband access. It is essential for these areas of the state to have sufficient Internet access to grow and develop.” If you would like to apply for this program, call 1-855-8-INTERNET (1-855-846-8376) to request an application. Comcast will then mail an application. Complete the application and return it, along with lunch program documents from your child's school. Comcast will notify you by mail about the status of your application. Once you are approved, Comcast will mail you a welcome package with everything required to set up your Internet service and to receive free Internet training. If you choose to purchase a low-cost computer, the welcome package will provide details on the computer too. -30- |
