[r65] Rep. Koch Legislation Prohibits In-state Tuition for Illegal Aliens (2/18/2011)

STATEHOUSE- House Bill 1402, co-authored by Rep. Eric Koch (R-Bedford), would exclude individuals who are not lawful residents of the United States from receiving resident tuition rates at state educational institutions.

House Bill 1402 passed through the House by a vote of 75 to 14 and will now move to the Senate for consideration.

"Persons illegally in the country-who should not be here in the first place- should not receive taxpayer-subsidized higher education," said Rep. Koch.

Rep. Koch serves in District 65 which includes Bartholomew, Brown, Jackson, and Lawrence counties. Rep. Koch serves as the Chairman of the Elections & Apportionment Committee, and member of the Select Committee on Government Reduction, Statutory Committee on Ethics, and the Utilities & Energy Committee. Rep. Koch also serves as Assistant Republican Caucus Chairman.
