STATEHOUSE (March 24, 2009) - Rep. Eric Koch (R-Bedford) today joined the Indiana General Assembly in honoring the families of Indiana soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice defending their country, especially those fighting the war on terrorism.
In a resolution, the Indiana General Assembly offered gratitude and prayers to the families of the 152 fallen men and women from Indiana. As part of the ceremony, the families were invited into the House chamber for the reading of the resolution. Following this reading, the names of the soldiers were read and Adjutant General Martin Umbarger spoke before the assembly.
"These soldiers paid the ultimate price in the course of their service to our nation," said Rep. Koch. "Through this resolution, we honor them and pay our deepest respect to their families."
Rep. Koch represents parts of Bartholomew, Jackson, Brown and Lawrence counties. The names of three soldiers from these Indiana counties were read to the House.
Army Spc. Carter "C.J." Gamble, age 20. C.J. gave his life on June 24, 2007, in Iraq.
Army Pfc. Stephen P. Downing II, age 30. Stephen gave his life on Oct. 28, 2004, in Iraq.
Army Spc. Ronald D. Allen Jr., age 22. Ronald gave his life on Aug. 25, 2003, in Iraq.
The resolution concluded with the ceremonial playing of taps.
