Last year, the Indiana General Assembly created a law allowing Purple Heart recipients who served active duty after Sept. 10, 2001, to apply for the tuition and fee exemption. Senate Bill 39 will expand those eligible for the exemption to include all veterans who have received the honor of a Purple Heart. "Our wounded veterans have made a special sacrifice for our nation, which we today recognize by expanding the tuition exemption to include all Purple Heart recipients," said Rep. Koch. If Gov. Daniels signs the bill into law, it will become effective July 1, 2009. Rep. Koch is a member of the House Commerce, Energy, Technology and Utilities committees and is assistant Republican caucus chairman. He represents House District 65, which includes parts of Bartholomew, Brown, Jackson, and Lawrence counties. Rep. Koch can be reached at h65@IN.gov, or by phone at 1-800-382-9841.
