STATEHOUSE - State Rep. Mark Messmer (R-Jasper) congratulates Otwell Elementary School as being recognized as a 2011 National Blue Ribbon School.
It was announced this week by the Indiana Department of Education and the United States Department of Education (USDOE) that Otwell Elementary School in Otwell, Ind. is one of nine schools in Indiana to be recognized as a 2011 National Blue Ribbon School.
"Otwell Elementary's students, their parents, faculty and staff should all be very proud of this accomplishment," said Rep. Messmer. "All of the hard work from those involved sets a high standard for schools in both Indiana and across the nation. Congratulations are certainly in order on this excellent achievement."
The USDOE honors schools that demonstrate student achievement gains or score at very high levels on state assessments.
The USDOE named 304 schools as 2011 National Blue Ribbon Schools based on their overall academic excellence or for their success in closing achievement gaps. National Blue Ribbon Schools will be honored at an awards ceremony in November in Washington, D.C.
