STATEHOUSE – A resolution authored by State Rep. Mark Messmer (R-Jasper) honoring the Schnitzelbank Restaurant in Jasper for winning the Indiana Office of Tourism Development’s (IOTD) Super 46 Sandwich contest was adopted today by the Indiana House of Representatives.
“The Schnitzelbank Restaurant has been an excellent institution in Jasper for more than 50 years,” said Rep. Messmer. “This is a very special accomplishment, one which they well deserve. Not only do they serve great food, but provide great service and support to the community. I’m pleased they have been recognized across Indiana as one of the best family businesses in the state.”
The Schnitzelbank Restaurant’s bratwurst sandwich won the IOTD Super 46 Sandwich contest by garnering 63 percent of the vote in the final round over the Mile High Club sandwich from Rock Cola 50’s café.
The contest promoted IOTD, the Indianapolis Super Bowl Host Committee and the publishers of Indianapolis Monthly and was designed to showcase Indiana food and restaurants to Super Bowl visitors.
Due to the increased interest in the Schnitzelbank Restaurant’s bratwurst sandwich, the restaurant used 100 pounds of bratwurst each week, up from the 30 pounds that is usually used during the traditionally slow month of January.
Schnitzelbank Restaurant has been a family-owned business that has served traditional German dishes for 51 years in Jasper, Ind.
