STATEHOUSE — House Speaker Brian C. Bosma (R-Indianapolis) announced committee assignments and leadership appointments for the Indiana House Republican Caucus with Rep. Mark Messmer (R-Jasper) being selected to serve as the Chairman of Commerce, Small Business and Economic Development.
Committee chairmen and caucus leaders are selected biennially by the majority party after each election year.
“I am humbled to be serving as the chairman of this committee,” said Rep. Messmer. “Getting more Hoosiers back to work is my top priority. As a committee, we will look into ways to continue to spur economic development in Indiana and to grow our state’s private sector economy.”
In addition to his chairmanship appointment, Rep. Messmer will also serve as a member of the Financial Institutions and Public Policy committees.
Standing committees are an integral part of the legislative process. Committees with specific expertise receive public testimony and work out the details of proposed legislation before it is heard on the House floor.
“I am confident in the abilities of each of these leaders, and I know that they are each eager to begin their committee work and their leadership roles,” said Speaker Bosma.
Rep. Messmer (R-Jasper) represents portions of Daviess, Dubois, Pike and Martin counties.
