[r63] Rep. Messmer announces U.S. 231 updates

STATEHOUSE – State Rep. Mark Messmer (R-Jasper) would like to announce upcoming improvements to several portions of roadways in and around Jasper and Huntingburg.

“Having the infrastructure in place for transportation and commerce are vital to our community’s economy and standard of living,” said Rep. Messmer. “I’m pleased that INDOT is addressing the sections of road that need some attention.”

The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) will be taking bids on Sept. 12 from road construction organizations to complete a resurface project of U.S. 231 from .7 miles north of State Road 64 to 1.32 miles north of State Road 164, including:

• In Huntingburg, from 36 feet south of 2nd Avenue to approximately 100 feet south of 4th Street INDOT will be deep patching, resurfacing and updating the curb ramps to meet ADA standards. 
• In front of Jasper Engines, INDOT will be replacing a 40-foot slab of concrete. Also, they will be milling the shoulders down and repaving for approximately 290 feet on the southbound shoulder of U.S. 231 and 500 feet on the northbound shoulder of U.S. 231.
• In front of Hardee’s, INDOT will be paving (only the asphalt areas) from 15 feet south of Indiana Street to State Road 56. INDOT will also be paving the approach to 5th Street.
• In Jasper, from 87 feet south of 14th Street to 308 feet north of Schuetter Road, INDOT will be deep patching, paving and updating the curb ramps to meet ADA standards.

After INDOT selects a contractor from the bidding process, an outline will be provided to establish a clearer time frame for starting construction.
