STATEHOUSE — State Representative Mike Braun (R-Jasper) joined fellow legislators at the Statehouse today, Organization Day, for the first official meeting of the 119th General Assembly. All 100 members of the House, including eight new Republicans, were sworn in by Chief Justice Loretta Rush. Rep. Braun was elected to represent House District 63, which includes portions of Daviess, Dubois, Pike and Martin counties.

“It is an honor and privilege to represent our community at the Statehouse,” said Rep. Braun. “I am eager to serve the people of southwest Indiana and ready to work with my colleagues to find common ground on solutions that are critical to our state’s future. I look forward to making our area of the state the best place to live, work and raise a family.”

Last month, House Republicans released their 2015 legislative agenda which works to increase accountability for all Hoosiers while strengthening Indiana in four major categories: the biennial budget, education, ethics and public safety. That focus was emphasized today as House Speaker Brian Bosma (R-Indianapolis) addressed members of the Indiana House, highlighting the importance of increasing accountability for all Hoosiers.

“My top priority this session will be to pass an honestly balanced budget that does not increase taxes on Hoosiers,” said Rep. Braun. “We must also continue to strengthen our education system by focusing dollars on the classroom and working to fix the discrepancies in the funding formula.”
