[r63] Messmer Report: Indiana Sportsmen's Caucus weekend retreat

Posted by: Zach Weismiller  | Thursday, July 14, 2011

Knowing that there is an abundant interest in sport hunting and fishing in Indiana, a group of legislators this year created the first ever Indiana Sportsmen's Caucus. Myself and several other state legislators meet throughout the year and discuss and remain informed on many issues that impact Hoosier sportsmen, as well as related legislative issues.

The Indiana Sportsmen's Caucus was created to support a nationwide effort to work on issues impacting hunters, anglers and trappers. We will work together to focus on ways to protect and expand sporting opportunities for all Hoosiers.

In an effort to meet with fellow sportsmen and stay on top of the issues impacting them, we are hosting the first-ever September retreat, which we hope to make an annual event. The event, being held the weekend of Sept. 10 and 11 in French Lick, will give legislators and Hoosiers who enjoy sporting activities the opportunity to communicate and learn from one another.

The event registration includes a one night stay at French Lick, a two hour shooting course at Sugar Creek Sporting Clays and Hunting Preserve, dinner Saturday and continental breakfast on Sunday. The cost of registration is $300. Registration fees will be used to fund the weekend's activities. A fundraising auction featuring sporting equipment will be conducted Saturday night to support caucus efforts, including future events that will help facilitate communication between Hoosiers and lawmakers.

I am looking forward to the event and to meeting fellow Hoosiers that enjoy sporting activities. If you would like more information, or to register for the retreat please contact Matt Doerr, Sen. Steele's Legislative Assistant by phone at 1-800-382-9467 or by email atmdoerr@iga.in.gov. You may also contact my office at 317-232-9671 or H63@in.gov.
