STATEHOUSE— House Speaker Brian C. Bosma (R-Indianapolis) announced standing committee assignments today for the 119th General Assembly. Standing committee assignments are made biennially after each election.

“I am honored to be reappointed as the Chairman of Elections and Apportionment, and I look forward to the opportunity to serve in this capacity,” said Rep. Smith. “I am eager to get started working with my colleagues to address issues that matter most to Hoosiers.”

State Rep. Milo Smith (R-Columbus) was appointed to serve on the following committees:

  • Elections and Apportionment (Chair)
  • Select Committee on Government Reduction
  • Family, Children and Human Affairs

Standing committees are an integral part of the legislative process.  Committees with specific expertise receive public testimony and work out the details of proposed legislation before it is heard on the House floor.

“Committees are where issues are vetted to ensure a focused, pragmatic piece of legislation reaches the house floor,” said Rep. Smith. “They’re a valuable step in the legislative process as hearing from experts and constituents helps to shape legislation to specifically address critical areas of concern.”
