STATEHOUSE (March 24, 2009) - Rep. Milo Smith (R-Columbus) today joined the Indiana General Assembly in honoring the families of Indiana soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice defending their country, especially those fighting the war on terrorism.
In a resolution, the Indiana General Assembly offered gratitude and prayers to the families of the 152 fallen men and women from Indiana. As part of the ceremony, the families were invited into the House chamber for the reading of the resolution. Following this reading, the names of the soldiers were read and Major General R. Martin Umbarger spoke before the assembly.
"The dedication, honor and courage displayed by our troops is nothing short of inspiring," said Rep. Smith. "Today, the House honored the families of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their country. It is because of these brave men and women that we may continue to live our way of life. It was truly an honor and a privilege to be in the company of so many extraordinary families."
Rep. Smith represents parts of Johnson and Bartholomew counties. The names of two soldiers from Johnson County were read to the House.
The resolution concluded with the ceremonial playing of taps.
