(STATEHOUSE) Jan. 15, 2008 - Reps. Woody Burton (R-Greenwood), Dave Frizzell (R-Indianapolis) and Milo Smith (R-Columbus) issued the following statements in reaction to the State of the State address: Rep. Burton: "During this session, there is nothing more important than providing reasonable and effective solutions to Indiana's property tax crisis. As representatives of Indiana, finding a solution to the property tax crisis will be our top priority. I am still hopeful we can totally eliminate property taxes. This is obviously a great move in the right direction. If we all stay unified with the program Gov. Daniels discussed we can fix the assessment system and get this plan prepared for a permanent constitutional amendment. I am very supportive." Rep. Frizzell: "I really appreciated his speech; his emphasis tonight was on property tax reform. This is the issue we have to solve for all taxpayers this session. Tonight the governor provided a blueprint for us to mold and shape in such a way that we may begin moving in the direction of complete property tax elimination." Rep. Smith: "I thought the governor made a wonderful presentation; he hit on all the key points of property tax reform. There were a lot of applause and appreciation shown throughout the speech. The most important aspect to me was to make sure all assessments are fair and uniform, if that happens everything else will fall into place." -30- |
