"It's always been an honor for me to serve my community and to be a part of something as extraordinary as the state legislature," said Rep. Burton today. "But what lies ahead, will not be an easy road to travel. "Hoosiers need jobs. Without jobs, our state cannot flourish or remain on top. This session, we will have the opportunity to do what is right by Indiana and the Hoosiers living here-that opportunity includes helping businesses create jobs, education reform and ways we can defend our state to Washington antics." Newly-elected Speaker of the House Brian C. Bosma (R-Indianapolis) took today's ceremony to emphasize to all members how the legislature must go beyond doing its duty and instead, become dedicated public servants to the State of Indiana. In September, the House Republican Caucus released their legislative plan, which can be found at www.in.gov/legislative/house_republicans. The plan discusses how House Republicans plan to address jobs, education and spending. Before gaining the 60-member majority in the 100 member chamber, Leader Bosma noted that he wanted to 'reach across the aisle' and 'bring civility back to the house chamber'. During today's ceremony, Speaker Bosma reinforced the legislative plan, and the importance of working together for the future of Hoosiers and the State of Indiana.
