STATEHOUSE - Rep. Woody Burton (R-Greenwood) and the Indiana House of Representatives passed a resolution today honoring Hannah Fuller for her act of heroism in rescuing her high school swim coach earlier this year.

On Jan. 14, swim practice for the 15-year-old Greenwood High School freshman started with a challenge from Coach Chas Grimm: Any swimmer who could beat him swimming underwater would get out of practice early.

"Hannah accepted her coach's challenge, but three laps into the swim she realized something had gone terribly wrong," said Rep. Burton. "In seven-foot-deep water, Fuller noticed her coach's face was blue and dark.

"So Hannah did what her coach trained her to do. She got underneath him, put one of her arms on his shoulder, and made sure his head was up."

The assistant coach and the lifeguard came to Hannah's aid to help pull Coach Grimm out of the water and began resuscitating him.

"Hannah has also been recognized for her heroism and humility by the Greenwood Christian Church, where she is a teen volunteer in the HeavenBound children's ministry, and by the 'Indiana Heroes,' the Pacers Sports and Entertainment community outreach program," Rep. Burton said.

"It was an honor to meet such a wonderful student athlete, hear her heroic story and give her the special recognition she rightly deserves."

Fuller also served as a House page for Rep. Burton today.
