STATEHOUSE — House Speaker Brian C. Bosma (R-Indianapolis) announced standing committee assignments for the 119th General Assembly. Standing committee assignments are made biennially after each election.
State Rep. Woody Burton (R-Whiteland) has been appointed Chairman of the Financial Institutions Committee. He will also serve on the Education, Elections and Apportionment, Insurance and Rules and Legislative Procedures committees.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to serve as Chairman of the Financial Institutions Committee in addition to my other committee appointments,” said Rep. Burton. “I look forward to the work we will accomplish in these committees during the upcoming session.”
Standing committees are an integral part of the legislative process. Committees with specific expertise receive public testimony and work out the details of proposed legislation before it is heard on the House floor.
“I firmly believe that committees are the workhorses of the institution,” said Speaker Bosma. “I look forward to being a part of a new generation of leaders as they shepherd important bills through our legislative process.”
The 2015 legislative session begins on Tuesday, Jan. 6, at 1:30 p.m.
