STATEHOUSE — On Organization Day, State Rep. Woody Burton (R-Whiteland) was joined by fellow legislators, staff and other state office holders in donating gift cards, linens and other items to the Indiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence (ICADV) at the Statehouse.
“I am pleased to see legislators and staff, from both sides of the aisle, participate in this charity drive to benefit the ICADV,” said Rep. Burton. “As someone who witnessed domestic violence firsthand as a child, this is a cause very close to my heart.”
The ICADV, founded in 1980, is a statewide coalition of domestic violence programs, support agencies and concerned individuals. They provide technical assistance, resources, information and training to those who serve victims of domestic violence. Their goal is to eliminate domestic violence through the implementation of prevention programs and public awareness.
“In the span of one year, over 1,700 victims of domestic violence were denied shelter because the program was over capacity,” said Rep. Burton. “Focusing additional resources on victims of domestic violence will be a top priority during the upcoming legislative session.”
Legislators and staff brought in gift cards, bedding, towels, kid’s art supplies, cleaning supplies and other items for the ICADV. Representatives from the organization were present to accept the donations at the Statehouse.
