The hearings are designed to allow for the public's input regarding new legislative district boundaries for the Indiana House of Representatives, Indiana Senate and the nine Congressional districts. Under the Indiana Constitution, the General Assembly elected during the year in which the federal decennials census is taken is responsible for adjusting the number of senators and representatives to apportion them among districts according to the number of inhabitants in each district, as revealed by the census.
