STATEHOUSE – State Rep. Dick Hamm (R-Richmond) commends the Hazzard Institute of Richmond for receiving an Economic Development through Growth and Entrepreneurship (EDGE) Award. Sponsored by the Indiana Economic Development Corporation's Small Business Development Centers (ISBDC), the awards are presented to emerging or established businesses that have a positive and measurable impact on the formation, growth, and sustainability of small businesses in Indiana. EDGE Award recipients are selected by the regional ISBDC staff that works directly with the business. “The future sustainability of our corner of the world is dependent on high-quality businesses and the strength of our education system; this company works to bolster both,” said Rep. Hamm. “They do such great things for our community and have a profound impact on the lives of many young Hoosiers.” The Hazzard Institute was developed in 1997 and provides comprehensive special education services to charter, community and traditional public schools. They believe that all students can and will achieve success when provided with highly effective, positive and supportive learning environments. One of the many services offered by the Hazzard Institute is professional development. They provide training for school leaders and staff to keep them informed about current special education law, policies and the best practices for continuous school improvement. The Hazzard Institute has licensed school psychologists and directors of special education who conduct a full range of evaluations, ensure appropriate student support services, evaluate special education programming and monitor compliance of special education rules and regulations. “I applaud the work the Hazzard Institute does in our local schools and the opportunities they provide for special education students,” said Rep. Hamm. “Nearly half of the U.S. private sector workforce is employed by small businesses – they are the engine of our economy.” The 20 small businesses recognized with EDGE awards provide 195 full-time Indiana jobs and in total finished 2012 with more than $6 million in sales. -30- |
