Please insert the following into your coverage of today's Supreme Court decision on the government's inability to restrain gun rights.
"Today, our 2nd Amendment rights were upheld by the Supreme Court. This decision will strike down gun ordinances all the way down to the local level if they prohibit law abiding citizens from being able to legally possess a gun in their own home," said Rep. Dave Yarde (R-Garrett).
"This was a narrow vote, but it is a victory for responsible gun owners across the county."
The laws passed by the City of Chicago and the Village of Oak Park in Illinois completely banned hand guns. In a case two years ago, the Supreme Court had protected an individual's right to possess guns, but that decision applied to self-defense in the home and only applied to federal laws.
Today's case strikes down bans passed at the local level, broadly applying the Second Amendment to state and local laws, as well as federal laws.
