STATEHOUSE— State Representative David Yarde (R-Garrett) is encouraging local fourth graders to participate in an essay competition in conjunction with “Indiana Statehood Day,” a celebration of Indiana’s 195th birthday.
The Indiana Statehouse Tour Office is sponsoring the competition. Winners will be honored at the Statehood Day Celebration taking place on Friday, December 9, 2011 from 12:00 to 1:00 P.M. EST, at the Indiana Statehouse. All essays must be received or postmarked by October 28, 2011. “The essay is a way to celebrate Indiana’s 195th birthday and an educational opportunity for students from all over the state to reflect on Indiana’s history and what makes our state great,” said Rep. Yarde. The competition rules are as follows: A group of selected judges will read through all entries and then choose first, second and third place winners. The first place winner will be invited to read his or her essay at the December 9 ceremony. “I encourage all students to participate in the essay competition,” said Rep. Yarde. “Living in Indiana means so much to me personally, the competition is a way for students to celebrate being a Hoosier.” Please send essays to: Jennifer Hodge, State Capitol Tour Office For more information on the contest please call the State Capitol Tour Office at 317-233-9830. -30- |
