With one week under my belt, it has been an exciting start to my time at the Statehouse. During the past several days I’ve had the opportunity to meet with constituents who have traveled to Indianapolis and discuss their issues one on one. I also sat down with outgoing Governor Mitch Daniels and Lieutenant Governor Becky Skillman to thank them for all they’ve accomplished for the state of Indiana and wish them well as they move on from this administration.
Committee meetings at the Statehouse have already begun. I’ve been meeting with non-partisan professionals in the Legislative Services Agency to aid me in crafting bills for the committee meetings this session. As Vice-Chairman of the Commerce, Small Business and Economic Development Committee, I was called to be acting Chairman while the current Chairman presented a bill to help improve Certified Technology Parks that will help them expand and bring new jobs to our state. In the Roads and Transportation Committee we passed on to the House legislation that will provide farmers the ability to plant, harvest and transport their products safely and efficiently.
I am developing effective ways to communicate to the people of District 52 about what is happening at the Statehouse. Additionally, I am working to organize the information, letters, emails, phone calls and personal visits from the people of our community and have a great staff in Indianapolis willing to assist in these areas. To schedule a Statehouse visit or a time to sit down and discuss any concerns you may have, please contact my Legislative Assistant, Matt Elliott, at firstname.lastname@example.org. To sign up for my e-mail newsletter, you can contact my Press Secretary, Erin Pabody, at email@example.com.
This session, our main priorities are getting Hoosiers back to work, expanding and improving education opportunities for students and passing a balanced budget that will enable Indiana to live within its means. Our state has made great progress in recent years, and I am excited to be on board for the continued work that will place Indiana on the road to becoming one of the top states in the nation.
I am very fortunate and grateful to have been chosen to represent the communities of District 52. I am committed to working hard for you and look forward to hearing any concerns you may have or ideas you think can help Hoosiers. I am enjoying the work, and I value the responsibility that the people of District 52 have entrusted to me.
