STATEHOUSE— House Speaker Brian Bosma (R-Indianapolis) appointed State Representative Ben Smaltz (R-Auburn) to serve on the following Joint Study Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure Assessment and Solutions.
“The work that will take place this summer will be a continuation of our progress during session and a preview of all that we will accomplish next session,” said Rep. Smaltz. “It is important for us to spend time taking a closer look at issues in preparation for 2014.”
Every year after the legislative session is completed, the Legislative Council meets to assign topics for study during the interim as well as establish any new interim committee that is needed to examine a particular issue. Most interim committees will begin meeting in July with their work wrapping up toward the end of October.
Interim committees are an integral part of the legislative process. Even though session is adjourned for 2013, legislators will continue their duties by conducting in-depth studies of various topics assigned to their committees. Interim committees with specific expertise receive public testimony and work out the details of proposed legislation before it is introduced in the 2014 session.
“I look forward to the work that will be accomplished in the Transportation and Infrastructure Assessment and Solutions Committee,” said Rep. Smaltz. “We worked hard this session to improve roads and infrastructure in Indiana, and I am excited to see that work continue this summer.”
