End Date: 9/21/2011

STATEHOUSE— State Rep. David Yarde (R-Garrett) is strongly encouraging college students and graduates interested in gaining professional experience and learning more about the legislative process to apply for this year’s internship program with the Indiana House of Representatives.

“To be a part of the House internship program will serve as an important component for the academic growth and professional expertise of any student involved,” said State Representative Yarde. “This is a great experience for students or graduates to build their professional resume while developing a deeper understanding of the legislative process and state government.”

The Indiana House will be accepting applications for the internship program until October 31. Applications are currently being accepted online at http://www.in.gov/legislative/house_republicans/intern.html.

College sophomores, juniors, seniors and recent graduates are encouraged to apply. All academic majors are accepted. The internship starts January 2012 and ends in March. It is a full-time internship, at the Statehouse, located in Indianapolis.

Interns will be compensated with a $700 bi-weekly stipend and are eligible to apply for a competitive $3,000 scholarship. The scholarship is for educational expenses, which can be applied toward current or future undergraduate/graduate expenses.

Individuals interested in the internship program have four different areas to consider when applying: member services, media, computer/technology and policy/fiscal. For a detailed description of each area and additional information on the internship program, please visit the website listed above.

Applicants are encouraged to work with their school in order to obtain academic credit for the internship. Most colleges and universities in Indiana offer class credit for this internship.

“I encourage all qualified candidates to apply to the House internship program,” said Rep. Yarde. “Interns play a key role at the Statehouse during the legislative session. I believe anyone who partakes in the program will find the experience to be rewarding.”

State Representative David Yarde serves District 52 which includes parts of LaGrange, Noble and DeKalb Counties.
