The door-to-door phase of the 2010 census has begun.
According to their findings compiled by the IU Kelley School of Business and the Indiana Department of Administration, the areas surrounding South Milford, Gravel Beach and Stroh are the only regions that have not yet reached a 70% participation rate in our immediate area.
If you live in one of these areas and did not return the census questionnaire, census workers may come to your home to ask you a few questions. These workers are people from your community hired by the Census Bureau to make sure that your neighborhood gets represented as accurately as possible. If no one answers, a census taker will visit up to three times and attempt to reach the household by phone three times. The census worker will leave a NOTICE of VISIT in the doorway that includes a phone number for the resident to schedule an appointment.
They will only ask questions that appear on the census form, and they are sworn for life to protect your data under Federal Law Title 13. Those who violate the oath face criminal penalties.
It's important that every Hoosier be counted by the 2010 Census. Much is at stake, like funding for schools, roads and hospitals.
