STATEHOUSE —State Representative Ben Smaltz (R-Auburn) authored a House Resolution this week honoring the DeKalb High School Classic Connection Show Choir for winning the state championship.
The DeKalb High School Classic Connection Show Choir took first place at the state championships four times in the past five years. The Classic Connection is one of many show choirs across the state that encourages the extracurricular development in the arts of high school students.
“It is great to see an outstanding group of high school students who have such a passion and commitment to the arts,” said Rep. Smaltz. “It’s quite an achievement to win so many state championships in a row, and it was a privilege to be able to recognize my alma mater publically at the Statehouse.”
The DeKalb High School Classic Connection Show Choir is comprised of 49 singer-dancers, 13 band members and eight crew members and is directed by Shelley Johnson.
“I’m really excited and proud to have the recognition 0f the Indiana Statehouse,” said DeKalb High School senior Mason Snider. “I’m glad to see that the House is willing to honor us with a resolution and help with the advancement of the performing arts at the high school level.”
Following Rep. Smaltz’s presentation of the resolution, the show choir performed “Back Home Again in Indiana” and the National Anthem on the House floor. They received a standing ovation.
