Each community will receive about $350,000 from the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant competition. "As a teacher, I'm thrilled to see the YMCA of Dekalb County and LEAP of Noble County being awarded these education grants. They do great work for our students and this money will be a big help to them," said Rep. Yarde. "$24 million was requested statewide, and only $12.4 million was awarded. It's a real honor for our communities to be among the recipients." According to IDOE, the primary purpose of the program is to award grants to public school districts, community-based organizations, public/private organizations, faith-based organizations, or a consortium of these organizations, in order to provide communities opportunities to establish or expand community learning centers. -30-
