Teaching is one of the most important occupations that one could pursue. Teachers not only equip students with how to read and write but leave long lasting wisdom to help young people succeed in their academia, career and family lives.

We should thank and acknowledge those teachers who have been such a large part of our lives. Next week is Teacher Appreciation Week, May 7-11, and a time when the nation celebrates and honors our nation’s teachers.  Tuesday, May 8th, is specifically designated as National Teacher Appreciation Day.

Teachers instill great values, impart long lasting wisdom, and take learning from just words on a page to a living, working concept of everyday life. I look forward to recognizing them through Teacher Appreciation Week.

Show Your Appreciation!

•Have your student write a letter telling the teacher why they appreciate them.

•Check with your student's school to see what activities they have planned for the week.

•The Indiana Department of Education is celebrating Teacher Appreciation Week by asking Hoosiers to submit a six-word essay about an outstanding educator in their lives. Entries are due by May 4th so they can be used during Teacher Appreciation Week. For more information on the contest, click here.
