State Representative Tim Neese (R-Elkhart) issued the following statement in response to today’s United States Supreme Court rulings:
“I was surprised that the United States Supreme Court overturned the federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA). This has certainly become one of the biggest questions of our time and I am pleased that despite their decision on DOMA, the Supreme Court also confirmed state’s rights.”
“Now that a ruling has been made, I anticipate voting on this issue this coming legislative session. It is important that we address the issue of a constitutional amendment in the coming legislative session and allow Hoosier voters to ultimately decide this matter.”
