STATEHOUSE-Rep. Tim Neese (R-Elkhart) was recently asked to be a co-fundraising chairman for the local LaSalle Council of Boy Scouts. The Boy Scouts are one of the oldest and largest values-based youth development organizations in the country and are currently celebrating their 100 year anniversary. The organization has over 2.8 million members and 1.2 million volunteers. During its centennial celebrations, the Boy Scouts have launched a new campaign to increase participation by 10% over two years. "The Boy Scouts are an exceptional organization for young boys to learn important character traits," Rep. Neese said. "I hope to help the Boy Scouts out by giving them assistance with their fundraising efforts." According to Scouter's Digest, 85% of Student Council Presidents, 65% of college graduates and 65% of U.S. Congressional Representatives are Boy Scout Alumni. In addition, Scouter's Digest has published statistics which state that for every 100 young men who join the Boy Scouts, 18 will enter professions first learned through the Merit Badge System, one will use Scout skills to save a life and one will use Scout skills to save his own life. "I want to congratulate the Boy Scouts on their 100 year anniversary and withstanding the tests of time," Rep. Neese said. "The commitment to helping boys become better men has proven their quality and worth to our community and country." |
