“The tour gave legislators a chance to see the assembly lines, the manufacturing plant and further insight into how the business works,” said Rep. Neese. “The RV industry is providing numerous jobs to the people of Elkhart County and it was interesting to take a deeper look into the industry.” The main purpose of the tour was to give state legislators a closer look at one of Elkhart County’s major manufacturers, headquartered in Middlebury. Jayco started in 1968 with only 15 employees; the manufacturer has been family owned and operated since their founding. The manufacturer has expanded to over 1,800 employees today. Wilbur Bontrager, Jayco’s chairman of the board and chief executive officer, was present for the tour along with Jayco Vice President Phil Geise. -30- |
