"Many forms of electronic waste may end up in the landfill where toxic chemicals often have the potential to pollute," said Neese. "Electronic waste, including televisions, computers, cell phones, and monitors is the fastest growing waste stream in Indiana." CRTs are the second largest source of lead in landfills after lead-acid batteries, which are now banned. Under House Bill 1589, recycling of these electronic devices could divert thousands of tons of electrical waste from Indiana landfills. "Keeping the environment clean and safe for Indiana is a priority," said Neese. "I believe that recycling of these electrical devices will result in cleaner landfills and water thus helping protect Indiana's environment for future generations."
