STATEHOUSE — Residents from District 48 who are unable to afford to paint the exterior of their home or garage could see relief through Rep. Tim Neese’s (R-Elkhart) annual summer home improvement program “Kick-a-Can.”
Named “Kick-a-Can” because the project is funded in part through profits made from recycling aluminum cans, the initiative assists less fortunate citizens by providing paint to improve the exteriors of their homes or garages.
To be eligible for the program, individuals must live within District 48, own the home or the garage that needs to be painted and financially unable to purchase the paint themselves. The individual or home owner must also have the ability to provide the labor.
“Home owners who can’t afford to make improvements to the exterior of their home are able to do so through this program,” said Rep. Neese. “This program aids in improving the appearance of homes so home owners can be proud of their home and community.”
Originally started in 1988 while Rep. Neese was a member of the Elkhart City Council, the project is funded through the profits made from various recyclables and is also assisted by North Point Sherwin-Williams.
