Wednesday, January 14, 2009

Start Date: 1/14/2009 All Day
End Date: 1/14/2009

(STATEHOUSE) Jan. 14, 2009 - State Rep. Tim Neese (R-Elkhart) is offering opportunities for area students who are interested in serving as single-day pages in the Indiana House of Representatives.  By serving as a House page, students are given a unique opportunity to view and participate in the day-to-day activities of the General Assembly.

Pages will spend the day assisting Rep. Neese. The day's work involves responding to representatives' requests, delivering messages and running errands. In addition, pages will receive a tour of the Statehouse, including the governor's office and the chambers of the Indiana House, Senate and Supreme Court. Pages will also be given an opportunity to witness any floor sessions and committee hearings taking place during their visit.

Pages must be between 13 and 18 years old.  The House Student Services Office will try to meet requests for specific dates.  Students will be excused from school for the day.  Each page will need to arrive at the Statehouse by 8:30 a.m. Students will also need to arrange for transportation to and from the Statehouse.  The legislative session runs through Apr. 29.

Availability is limited, so students should apply as soon as possible.  Those interested in serving as a page for the House can apply online at http://www.in.gov/legislative/house_republicans/student/pageindex.html or by calling the House Student Services Office at 317-233-9815.
