Manufacturing jobs saw the largest increase in Elkhart County, with 5, 125 jobs gained, a 12.4 percent increase. Elkhart County’s employment increased 6.2 percent during the timeframe of March 2010 to March 2011 as reported by the bureau. Indiana as a whole saw its employment increase during that time to 1.9 percent with the rest of the nation having a 1.3 percent employment increase. “I believe Indiana has worked hard to maintain and improve our current pro-jobs environment and I applaud Elkhart County for the employment percentage increase,” said Rep. Neese. “The strong job growth within the manufacturing industry Elkhart County.” The General Assembly passed legislation to further the economic climate of the state in the 2011 legislative session. Legislation includes House Enrolled Act (HEA) 1004, which increases access to start-up capital for Indiana businesses, HEA 1006 which promotes economic development locally and regionally, and HEA 1007 which allows enhanced abatement schedules and hiring incentives to encourage local job growth. “We want to continue fostering an environment that promotes business and ultimately provides employment opportunities for Hoosiers,” said Rep. Neese. “The announcement of Elkhart County having a large employment percentage comes as motivation to Indiana.” -30- |
