STATEHOUSE— State Representative Tim Neese  (R- Elkhart) commended Northern Indiana Aquaproducts (NIA) for receiving a 2012 Economic Development and Growth through Entrepreneurship (EDGE) award.

The EDGE awards are hosted by the Indiana Small Business Development Center (ISBDC) and were presented Wednesday by Lt. Governor Skillman at the Indiana Statehouse. These awards recognized nine emerging and nine established ISBDC client small businesses from across the state.

NIA, located in Elkhart, was among the select group of small businesses throughout the state honored with the distinct award. NIA proposes to provide the community with healthy produce and seafood.

“I want to congratulate Northern Indiana Aquaproducts for receiving the EDGE award,” said Rep. Neese. “These awards are recognizing those small businesses and entrepreneurial endeavors that are some of the best in all of Indiana. Northern Indiana Aquaproducts are a great example of a small business in our community that strive for excellence and spur economic development.”

The EDGE awards are presented to emerging or established businesses that have a positive and measurable impact on the formation, growth, and sustainability of small businesses in Indiana.

According to NIA, because Indiana is a Midwestern state, they focus on the fresh fish in the local community rather than a frozen option to provide a variety not commonly seen in the region. NIA will also be able to produce fresh vegetables year round with higher quality than frozen or transported vegetables from out of state.
