The incident occurred at Martin’s Supermarket where Krystle Lauren Dikes, an employee, and Rachelle Godfread, a shopper, died after being fatally shot by an active shooter. “This is every family’s worst nightmare,” said Rep. Neese. “These young women’s lives were tragically cut short simply because they were in the wrong place at the wrong time; one was at work, and the other was shopping. The best we can do is honor the memories of these young women and rally behind their families during their time of grief in the way only Hoosiers could do.” The entire incident lasted only a few minutes as police officers, Corporal Cody Skipper and Corporal Jason Tripp, arrived quickly on the scene. They were forced to fatally shoot the gunman immediately. Among the lives saved was the store manager, who the gunman had on his knees by threat of the firearm when police arrived. “Through the heroism of Corporal Skipper and Corporal Tripp, lives were saved,” said Rep. Neese. “I think it is important to point out that these are two young officers who responded with a type of definitive action well beyond their actual years of experience. I sincerely want to thank these officers and their families for the sacrifices they make to keep our community safe.
