STATEHOUSE – Indiana Legislators were sworn in today, Organization Day, which marks the first meeting for the 119th General Assembly. All 100 members of the House, including eight new Republicans, were sworn in by Chief Justice Loretta Rush. State Representative Doug Miller (R-Elkhart) was elected to represent House District 48, which includes portions of Elkhart County.

“I am honored by the opportunity to represent our community in Indianapolis and look forward to getting to work,” said Rep. Miller. “I believe that one of the most important issues currently facing northern Indiana is employment, and this session, I will make it my priority to maintain and build upon Indiana’s business-friendly environment.”

In October, the House Republican Caucus released their legislative agenda, making it clear that their focus will be on the budget, education, ethics and public safety. That focus was echoed today as the 71 House Republicans prepared for the upcoming session.

“As a small business owner, I understand the important role that our state’s finances play when it comes to job creation and economic development throughout our state,” said Rep. Miller. “Passing an honestly balanced budget and living within our means is essential to providing economic opportunity and financial security for future generations of Hoosiers.”
